Razer Mamba Wireless Laser Gaming Mouse
As one of the best presentations of Retail packaging, the Razer
Mamba wireless laser mouse comes mounted on a clear
plastic pedestal inside a tall Plexiglass case—almost as if its in a
trophy case with no cables to be seen. The wireless
transceiver/charging station, battery, USB cable, and
documentation are all hidden inside the base in cardboard drawers that
can be opened individually.
To use the Razer Mamba as a wired mouse while its charging you have to unplug Razer’s special USB
cable from the charging stand. A real nice feature of the Mamaba is an LED on the side that
keeps you informed of the battery status. Razer claims a fully charged
battery will last for 14 hours of continuous gaming which is pretty good considering the juice this thing requires.
The Mamba felt incredibly natural in the palm. It has a rubberized
skin on the majority of the body and on the buttons that yields itself
to be possibly the mouse comfortable mouse on the market at the time.
The Mamba has has a total of 9 buttons: There’s the usual left and right button on top, two large thumb buttons on the left side, and then a second set of buttons on the left that are near the top of the side of the mouse next to the left mouse button. The default function of the smaller buttons is to activate on-the-fly sensitivity changes that enable you to switch from anywhere between 100 DPI resolution for precision (editing a digital photo, for instance) to 5,600 DPI. You can customize the stepping of the on-the-fly DPI toggling and you can even customize the X and Y axis sensitivity independently of each other.
The Razer Mamba comes bundled with a very complete piece of software that allows you to customize 7 of the 9 buttons on the mouse. It comes with its own built-in memory that can work with the software to store custom profiles and carry them between computers where you will have easy access to them. Profiles can be tied to specific applications, too, so that launching a particular game automatically configures the mouse for the appropriate play style.
The Mamba’s resistance of the buttons feels great. You don't even have to lift your thumb to switch between the two side buttons and the two smaller side buttons were within easy reach of our index finger. The rubberized scroll button feels at home on this mouse and at the same quality as the other features, EXCELLENT.
